The client faces significant waste generated from disposable packaging, such as cardboard boxes used for food and beverage delivery, with approximately 80% of packaging currently being recycled but an estimated 95% being reusable. There is a need to close the loop in packaging reuse to enhance sustainability, reduce environmental impact, and lower costs associated with packaging waste management. Currently, there is no streamlined system for tracking, returning, and incentivizing the reuse of packaging materials across the supply chain and customer base.
A mid-sized food and beverage supplier aiming to reduce packaging waste by establishing a reusable packaging return system with their supply chain partners and customers.
The implementation of this circular packaging management system aims to significantly reduce waste and associated costs by increasing packaging reusability. Based on prior benchmarks, the project is expected to enable a reduction of approximately 390 grams of carbon emissions per reused box. It will also foster greater stakeholder engagement, improve supply chain sustainability, and demonstrate environmental leadership, resulting in strengthened brand reputation and potential cost savings in packaging materials management.
